For kindness, overcoming adversity and showing initiative
I am delighted that individuals in the Senior School were recognised and awarded a Rotary Respect Award. Unfortunately, the ceremony had to be cancelled but that hasn't stopped me wanting to shout from the rooftops about the success we have had. These awards recognise and celebrate positive examples of citizenship and respect for others across South Fylde.
Fraser (Year 11) was awarded 'outstanding', the highest accolade given by the judges for the way he has overcome adversity. The judges believed it was his attitude that truly made him stand out from all the rest of the nominations. "Fraser exemplified a respect for himself that stood out and all the judges agreed it was worthy of the highest award. He has overcome great adversity and flourished against all odds. Fraser's fight is ongoing but to read how he has worked, with the help and support of others, to rebuild his self-esteem and become part of a thriving school community was excellent."
Thomas (Year 9) was awarded a commendation for his act of kindness epitomising what it is to be a truly amazing friend. Here is what the judges had to say: "It is so lovely to see such compassion from a teenage boy who ultimately wanted to reach out and show his friend he was not alone."
Team Idozi comprising of J Jay, Millie, Toby and James (Year 13) were also commended for showing their initiative under the Tycoon in Schools scheme. Their idea was to upcycle old, unloved or broken jewellery and produce a range of earrings which would give old jewellery a new and loved feel raising £800 for charity.
Evangeline (Year 7) was nominated by her church for an act of kindness in the local community. Evangeline showed great kindness by using her initiative to provide items for the homeless.
It fills me with delight when pupils exhibit such attitudes and values and being recognised in this way by the Rotarians is an absolute privilege.
