Welcoming new starters across the school

PUBLISHED 05 September 2020

Welcome to all our new families and congratulations to those who are transitioning to the next stage of their education at AKS. We hope everyone enjoyed their first day and the special induction sessions held for Reception and Prep School pupils, in addition to Year 7 and Sixth Form students.

Mr Harrow said, "It has been truly fantastic to see our Reception, Year 7 and Year 12 students in school for their start-of-year induction today. We have enjoyed welcoming our many new joiners and their parents and seeing those already in the school move through to the next stage of their education with us. The sunny weather has matched the incredibly upbeat atmosphere at the start of this very different, but equally exciting, new school year."

Mrs Ilhan, Head of AKS Nursery and Preparatory School added, “I was so delighted to greet all the new AKS Prep children attending the Induction Morning today. All the children had such lovely smiles on their faces and looked so smart in their new uniforms. They walked to their new classes so maturely. Well done to all - I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing you all again on Monday!”

In Senior School, the Year 7 year group were welcomed via an outdoor registration session, followed by a welcome from Mr Harrow and Mr McKeown (Deputy Head), including practical information about what to expect and where to go when school starts fully next week. The introductory sessions included time with form tutors and were followed by team games in the sports department. Mrs House, Head of Lower School said, “It was lovely to welcome our new Year 7s today - the corridors and classrooms came alive with the sound of new friends being made and timetables being exclaimed over. The whole year group were impeccably behaved and had fun starting their learning journey at Senior School. One parent emailed in, after seeing our morning registration (conducted outside), to say how she felt that the process was warm and friendly, while at the same time being purposeful and well structured. Exactly the tone we want at AKS. Year 7 - see you on Monday!”

It was also our new Year 12's induction session, with introductions from Mr Maund (Head of Sixth Form), Mr Mckeown and Mr Hayden (Assistant Head, Pastoral). There was time for our new joiners to meet those who have transitioned from Senior School at AKS. The group enjoyed meeting each other, being reunited with old friends; looking dapper in new suits; hearing about the sixth form privileges and getting used to their new accommodation in our sixth form centre. Mr Maund was delighted to welcome everyone, saying, "I'm really looking forward to working with this fabulous bunch of young people. It's been really exciting to see their energy and enthusiasm. They are geared up and ready for the start of sixth form. It's so lovely to have them all back and to welcome new our new joiners."
