Back in March 2020, Year 4 and Year 5 had a visitor. Mrs Fell, mother of Eli, came to talk to us about her family’s Carlisle based textile company Stead McAlpin.
Mrs Fell showed the children a wealth of stunning printing blocks, photos, and textile designs, including some designed by William Morris, before explaining the textile process and how repeated patterns are created.
The children designed their own repeated textiles based on the Seaside. Year Four design’s featured shells or fish while Year Five’s featured Lollies and Ice Creams.
The designs were taken away to be judged, just before Covid 19 struck the country, but we had a lovely surprise when a big parcel arrived featuring the winning designs which had been printed by Stead McAlpin and made into beautiful cushions.
