AKS athletes had another outstanding day both on the track and in the field at the Lancashire Schools Athletics Championships as five athletes were crowned Lancashire Champions and two school records fell despite the very difficult weather conditions.
Star of the day once again was hugely talented Year 9 Camilla C who won the Junior Girls 200m in a superb time of 25.7secs which not only was a personal best but also an English Schools standard and qualifying time for the English Schools Championships. The time also smashed the AKS All Comers record which has stood since 2004.
Another school record fell in the Junior Girls Javelin where Anna V was crowned County champion with a superb throw of 32.14m for a personal best and Year 9 record.
In the field Lilly G topped the Inter Girls Shot to be crowned Lancs Champion with another personal best of 9.54m and she was joined at the top of the podium by Olivia D who threw the discus 22.52m to claim the Junior Discus title. The final AKS County Champion was Matthew S who ran a superb 300m in 39.8s to lead the field home.
There were other superb performances both on the track and in the field. Olivia W ran well to claim 2nd place in the Junior Girls 75m Hurdles (14.3s) and there were podium finishes for Charlotte L, 3rd in the Inter 100m (14.1s), Niamh M 3rd in the Inter Hammer (20.69m) and Taym B 3rd in the Inter Boys Discus (24.33m). Amelia H (Inter 80mH 13.9s) and Shelby Q (Jun HJ 1.37m) both finished in 4th place while Adrianna E finished 6th in Junior Girls 200m with a time of 29.5s having progressed through to competitive final with a time of 29.0s earlier in the day.
Well done to all athletes who represented the school brillaintly at the Lancashire Championships.
