Lunchtime Lecture: Generation Alpha

PUBLISHED 11 March 2024

Head of Sociology (and Head of Sixth Form), Mr Kevin Maund delivered today's Lunchtime Lecture on Generation Alpha - the digital natives born between 2010 and 2024, who succeed Generation Z.

He explored the unique characteristics of Generation Alpha and how they differ from Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers. From technological immersion to social activism, the lecture delved into the sociological research that sheds light on the distinct traits and experiences of each generation.

This included a discussion of the speed of technological advancement, particularly with respect to social media and hand-held devices, resulting in Alphas being permanently connected and the online world being an intrinsic part of their daily lives.

The next events in the Scholars' Programme are:

  • Scholars' Society (OAKS Hall, 4.00pm to 5.00pm) - Wednesday 22nd May
  • Lunchtime Lecture (OAKS Hall, 1.30pm to 2.00pm) - Tuesday 11th June

These events are a fantastic way to develop academic skills and to engage with material beyond the classroom. They are open to all students in Years 7 to 13, and all academic scholars are expected to attend.
