AKS U12 Hockey Teams start the New Year with Club Challenge

PUBLISHED 16 January 2024

After a successful first term at AKS for the U12 hockey players, which saw them remain undefeated,  the New Year started with the challenge of facing a club side for the first time as both A & B teams played Preston Hockey Club.

The U12A Hockey had a great tousle with Preston Hockey Club U12 Hockey Team in a close fought game.  The teams were evenly matched with both sides playing some excellent hockey.  Preston started with pace and intent that caught AKS on the back foot and only great defending kept the scores level.  Preston attacked in waves but AKS soaked up the pressure and started to settle into the game.  Everyone worked hard to put themselves in a position whereby they were putting Preston under pressure and their attacks at pace made  the Preston goalkeeper have to make some excellent saves, AKS were unlucky not to convert this pressure before half time and the score remained 0 – 0.  After half time AKS were clear in their understanding of setting the press and reacting to the decisions on the pitch to maintain their pressure on Preston and started to create a number of chances but again the Preston defence held firm.  As with the first half of the game moved from end to end, however AKS stepped up their level of play and were able to apply most of the pressure in their attacking half and dominate but could not find the net.  The final score for the match was 0-0 and both teams should be pleased with their performance. Player of the Match was Evie G.

AKS B team played an exciting game against Preston HC with end-to-end play. AKS started strongly with some great attacking drives from Elle J and Amelia G. Preston also played some great hockey putting pressure on our defence but Olivia C, Bella A and Katie W held firm and the scores remained level. AKS were trying to put in to the game, the drills that were practiced the day before, resulting in a goal scored by Antonia B. Preston came back into the game shortly after and equalised. AKS continued to work hard but a second goal was scored by Preston as they put high pressure on AKS defensive play to make the final score 1 - 2. It was a superb match and the Player of the Match was Issy Hill
