Festive House Hockey Tournament finishes the term on a high for Year 10

PUBLISHED 18 December 2023

The first half of the hockey season was brought to a festive close for the Year 10 pupils at AKS as all the girls in the year took part in the annual Inter House Competition with many getting into the true festive spirit playing in festive costumes and Christmas jumpers.

Team players joined non-team players to play for their House and strive to be crowned House Champions as well as earn valuable House points. The competition run on a round robin basis saw the four houses play 3 matches against each other and there was some superb hockey on show and lots of goals scored.

The first round saw Leighton win against Gawthorpe, despite the best efforts of team keeper Niam M and coaching from the sidelines by injured Ellie S, whilst Salmesbury just got the better of Rufford winning a close fought game by the odd goal  5- 4.

Round two saw Leighton secure their second win against Rufford whilst Salmesbury also secured a second win against Gawthorpe.

The final round saw the two undefeated sides meet in the deciding match. Leighton took an early lead but Salmesbury got back on level terms two minutes later with a goal to make it 1 - 1. With the top spot at stake both teams played some superb hockey putting in to practice the skills and patterns of play they have developed since September. In an end to end game it was Salmesbury who went back in front half way through the game and with three more quick goals they secured the win and with it top spot and were crowned House Champions.

Played in a superb spirit with everyone playing their part for the House Team it was a superb way to finish the term.
