Prep School pupils decide on chosen charity for the next two years

PUBLISHED 07 March 2022

The AKS Prep School Council and many of our Round Square Pillar leaders made us very proud last week. Brave and confident presentations were made by the pupils to help us choose a charity for the next two years.

Other members of the Council organised the voting system using cubes and trays so that everyone in the school could vote for their favourite charity in a practical way.

The speakers prepared their own speeches, often including personal stories about members of their family who have been supported by a charity such as Cancer Research and The British Heart Foundation, or just from a cause which they thought was important, such as Donkey Sanctuaries, Christian/Islamic Aid, The RSPCA, Shelter and Hero Rats. Even the Preschool children were able to vote for their favourite.

A mixture of Powerpoint presentations, sleeping bags, posters and newspapers helped the speakers to share their ideas with their audience.
We had anticipated that the voting would take some time, because the presentations were all so persuasive and effective, but the voters made their decisions efficiently.

There were two clear winners, with very close scores, so a decision was made to support both of these, especially because they have things in common. These were ‘Hero Rats’ and the RSPCA.

We thought long and hard about supporting Ukraine, especially as some members of our community have links with this country. We decided that we would not make this competitive and would support the work currently being done in the Senior School at the moment. See here for details.

Watch out for fundraising events which will begin soon!
