‘Just New Friends’, our social enterprise group of Tycoons attended the finals at Tobacco Docks, London. Following on from a hugely successful fundraising games night last November they were able to fund games afternoons in partnership with Bev Sykes and her charity ‘Just Good Friends’. Loneliness and isolation were combatted with a Beetle Drive, Bingo, Name That Tune, Dominoes and the now legendary Play Your Cards Right. Moreover, Steve Shepherd and his excellent catering staff provided fancy afternoon teas, and this gave the opportunity for new people to meet and chat.
The students had worked hard on their enterprise and were justly rewarded finishing second to the overall competition winners. Out of 1800 competing businesses the AKS team also won the Business for Good award – the best social enterprise. A fabulous day out in London for the students and a marvellous achievement.
Year 12 will take over the reins of this idea and will be hosting their own games night on Friday 18th November – this should prove to be a very popular event- further details to follow.
