Moving up from Reception is a big step. In Year One, expectations change; there is more work, trickier challenges and an expectation that the children will do many things for themselves. How does this happen? There is no magic wand which suddenly transforms the children. At AKS we are blessed with enthusiastic, energetic children who love to learn and who enjoy helping each other to work and play hard.

This year’s children began the journey with just a little trepidation, but now, in our third week of school, their confidence is growing. The children have been well prepared for their expeditions into learning and are facing their challenges head on.

How do you draw a diagram of a tree? How do you know which plant is which? How do you order numbers to 100 correctly? How can you spell tricky words? How can you help your team to keep a balloon in the air? How can you tidy a room full of activities in 3 minutes? How can you help your friend to have a good day? Ask Year one, they know the answers!
