A fantastic performance from the AKS U13 hockey team against The Grange School saw them secure a well-deserved 4-0 victory and so progress in to the next round of the Independent Schools Cup
From the first whistle, the team played with great energy and determination, creating plenty of chances and putting the opposition under pressure. The passing was sharp, the movement off the ball was excellent and the girls worked really well together.
We took our chances when they came and kept the pressure on throughout the match, with four well-worked goals to show for it. At the other end, the defence stayed organised and composed, working hard to keep a clean sheet. Goal scores were Georgiana D- D, Sophia D-D and Winnie v-R(2) but overall it was a brilliant team effort from start to finish - lots of positives to take from the performance and a great result to build on. The player of the match was Winnie v-R.
AKS enjoyed a superb morning of hockey as 6 teams faced the traditionally strong Stockport Grammar School and coming away with 4 wins.

From the very first whistle, the whole team worked incredibly hard and showed great determination. AKS kept the pressure on throughout the match, creating lots of opportunities and converting them into goals. The team played some excellent hockey, with great passing, communication and teamwork all over the pitch. The defence worked hard to keep Stockport from creating many chances, while the midfield and attack continued to put pressure on their defence.Player of the match went to Evie G.
U14 team enjoyed a close, hard fought game against a strong Stockport side but after superb display maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a superb 2 – 1 win.
We once again got off to the perfect start when Freya W found the net to take us in to the lead in only the 2nd minute. Stockport gradually grew in to the game enjoying a lot of possession but improved marking and tackling by everyone limited their scoring chances. Stockport did however get reward for their attacking when they scored from a corner to draw level before the break.
The second half was a closely contested battle with both sides creating chances. Stockport were always dangerous but great defending by Arabella C, Penny A, Neve A, Prya P and Poppy O along with a number of superb saves by Harriet B in goal kept the scores level. Excellent attacking play down our right saw Amelie Y, Quinn E and Freya W linking well to create scoring opportunities and one of these found Ella B on had in the perfect place to put the ball over the line to take us in to the lead. Stockport then threw everything at us in the final minutes of the game but great battling defending by everyone kept then out to record a fantastic win. Stockport voted Penny A as the player of the match with Harriet B gaining coaches player of the match.
Our U13A hockey team played an exciting match against Stockport Grammar School. The team showed excellent teamwork, determination, and effort throughout the game. Georgiana D-D and Winnie v- R both had a fantastic match, scoring two goals each to give us a final score of 4–1. Our team also defended strongly and worked well together to keep Stockport Grammar School to just one goal. Winnie got player’s player and Elsie M got coach’s player which was well deserved. It was a great performance from everyone involved, and we were delighted to finish the match with a 4–1 victory.
The U13B team enjoyed a great game with both teams learning lots on the way. AKS lost out 0 – 2 and player of the match went to a deserved Alexia G.
The U12A team had a very positive performance overall. No goals conceded and some wonderfully worked goals. The team pressed hard and created a number of chances and had the opportunity to put into practice some short corner routines from which we scored two goals. The team benefitted hugely from being able to play in different positions and are really building a good awareness of what is required to defend and attack effectively. Too many moments of magic to pick out any individuals but Daisy Wood who looked assured and calm in goal for her first ever school match.
The U12B team
U15's Wyre and Fylde Netball Tournament - Congratulations to the U15 girls on an excellent performance in the Wyre and Fylde Netball Tournament, finishing in a well-deserved third place against strong opposition.
The team showcased tremendous determination and versatility throughout the day, adapting superbly to different opponents and game situations. Outstanding victories over St Aidan’s, Carr Hill, Garstang, Hodgson, and St Bede’s demonstrated the squad’s quality, teamwork, and resilience. Although they narrowly missed out against strong sides from LSA and Millfield, the girls continued to compete with great spirit and positivity.
A real strength of this squad was their versatility, with players confidently stepping into different positions and contributing wherever needed. This flexibility, combined with excellent teamwork and communication, proved crucial to their success throughout the tournament.
Finishing third is a fantastic achievement and reflects the hard work, commitment, and positive attitude shown by every member of the squad. Congratulations to all the players on a superb tournament performance and for representing the school so brilliantly.
AKS U15 Rugby played some great rugby and looked sharp, it just so happened to be in the wrong areas of the pitch. Bolton then used this to advantage and took their chances well after an AKS mistake. A yellow card before half time was a major blow but in the second half AKS started to play in the right areas and had plenty of chances with 15 minutes to play. Raff LC scored down the right edge after Jackson S brought in three defenders to feed the speed star. The game finished 40-7 to Bolton who had some physical ball carriers and aggressive line speed.
AKS U14 Rugby started the game really well, scoring two early tries to take control and put Merchant Taylors under pressure. An injury then left AKS with 14 players, allowing Merchant Taylors to work their way back into the game and eventually take the lead. AKS responded well, regaining control and scored another try of their own, putting them back in front. In the closing stages, AKS continued to move the ball well and looked dangerous in attack. However, an interception against the run of play gave Merchant Taylors the opportunity to score a decisive try. Despite a narrow defeat, AKS showed plenty of character, attacking intent and in the main defended extremely well throughout a closely contested match.
AKS U13 Rugby 20 def Mary’s Crosby 0 Tries: Henry C 3, George S
The U13s showcased exceptional teamwork and attacking flair in a fast-paced tri-fixture on Saturday morning, coming away with two fantastic victories against strong opposition.
The team hit the ground running in their opener, combining sharp ball movement with high work rate to keep the pressure on St Mary's throughout. Clinical finishing saw Henry C bag an impressive hat-trick of tries, with George S adding another to secure a clean-sheet victory.
AKS U13 30 def Bolton 10 Tries: Henry C 2, Lucca H 2, Charlie M, Freddie J
Carrying their momentum into the second match, AKS displayed real resilience against a physical Bolton side. The backline hit their stride as Lucca H and Henry C both crossed twice, complemented by excellent support play and tries from Charlie M and Freddie J to seal a decisive win. The boys showed magnificent endeavour, fluent ball movement, and fantastic resilience across both fixtures. It was particularly pleasing to see several players step up and make key contributions when given their opportunity. We will look to sharpen our line integrity at both ends and increase off-the-ball work rate in training this coming week.
Congratulations to all the boys for a competitive, high-spirited, and respectful morning of rugby!
AKS U12 15 - Stockport 10
This was a decent performance from the lads. Could have been a big score, but last pass didn’t make it too many times. Solid defense and plenty of effort.
AKS U12 5 - Wirral 0
Boys found a new way to win …. Performance of real heart. Massive press and solid tackles against a much more physical team. Real team performance.
On the football scene AKS U14’s took on the well known Rossall School in their first round of the Cup. On a cool afternoon AKS heated things up with plenty of fire and passion in their play. The game was well contested and in the balance throughout the half. However, a well taken goal from Nicholson proved the difference between the two teams. 1-0 AKS.
Rossall came out swinging but were unable to break down the AKS ‘wall’, well led by Wood. However, it was probably inevitable that Rossall were to score, given the pressure; and they duly did. Two further goals quickly followed. Nevertheless, with a quick rejig the AKS team rallied hit back with another well taken Nicholson goal. The game finished with Rossall scrambling in their own box to clear the ball as AKS laid siege on the visitor’s goal. Unfortunately, time ran out and Rossall took the lead and with it progressed into the next round.Special mention to the Y8 boys who played up and did so well.
