Over the last year competitive hockey across the country has been restricted but that has not stopped a talented group of AKS hockey players from continuing to develop and take a big step onto the England Hockey Talent Pathway up to playing International Hockey by being selected as part of the Fylde Performance Centre based at Mill Farm, Kirkham.

Since September AKS has continued to provide hockey training both during curriculum time and at extra –curricular clubs after school and on Saturday mornings and this, along with playing for local club Fylde Hockey Club, has enabled seven girls to develop their skills and understanding to the level required for this high-performance environment. All the girls have worked very hard on both their fitness levels and technique development attending additional training and techniques sessions to reach the level of performance required to be selected for the Performance Centre.

Year 8 pupil Layla W has done superbly well to be included in the U15 age group at just 13 while she is joined in this group by Yr 9 pupils Charlotte T and Carly W along with Year 10’s Olivia M and Laura Kn The U17 group sees Year 10 Lucy B joined by Anya J.

The girls have been attending regular Performance Centre training sessions and will continue to do so over the summer with their goal to be selected for the North Pennine Pumas team that takes part in the Futures Cup in August and serves as the first assessment for next year’s England Junior teams. We wish the girls every success on their hockey journey.
