Another great morning of hockey against Stockport Grammar School

PUBLISHED 01 October 2024

On Saturday six teams faced the traditionally strong Stockport grammar School.

The U15 team started slowly and went 1 – 0 behind early in the first half. Stockport continued to put us under pressure and despite the best efforts of keeper Emily B they scored two more before the break. The team showed significant improvement in the second half, demonstrating much better cohesion and communication as a unit. They worked together more effectively, creating numerous chances and maintaining stronger possession. However, despite this improvement, their finishing in front of the goal was lacking. Opportunities to score were there, but the team struggled to be clinical when shooting and could not find the net. AKS were unfortunate with two shots hitting the post. Overall a much better team performance despite the scoreline with Anna V again dominant and scoring our goal while Amelie C was voted player of the match by the opposition.

AKS U14 hockey team played their best hockey of the season and were rewarded with their first win against a strong Stockport team.

We started with confidence and took the game to Stockport from the first whistle with Annie L, Esme M and Gabby H-S linking well on the right and Camilla W always a threat up front. Good passing hockey saw us switch our point of attack well and attack at pace and we deservedly went 1 - 0 ahead when Camilla scored a trademark reverse stick goal midway through he half. Good team defending and improved marking in the circle limited the Stockport scoring opportunities and we went further ahead before the break with another Camilla goal.

The second half saw Stockport start the stronger and attack at pace but more great defending from Lauren M and Victoria H in the centre of the pitch saw them often forced wide. Stockport did get one back early in the half from a corner but determined to get our first win the team lifted our game and created more chances of our own but the final score was a 2 - 1 win. Players of the match were Annie L & Lauren M.

In a thrilling set of fixtures against Stockport, both the U13 A and B hockey teams displayed tremendous teamwork and resilience on the field.

The U13 A team dominated their match with a comfortable victory, showcasing their cohesion and strategic play. From the outset, they were relentless in both attack and defense, with every player contributing to the win. Their ability to read each other’s movements and provide supportive play was evident throughout the game, leading to a well-deserved win.

In the U13 B game, the team demonstrated remarkable resilience as they battled hard for a 2-2 draw. Despite facing tough opposition, the team remained supportive of one another, fighting back each time Stockport scored. Their teamwork was crucial in securing the result, with strong communication and cohesion in defense and attack, ensuring they held on for a well-earned point.

In a closely contested match, the U12a team faced Southport, ultimately falling short with a narrow 1-0 defeat. Despite the loss, the players demonstrated commendable determination and skill throughout the game. From the opening whistle, the team showcased some excellent passages of play, stringing together impressive combinations in both midfield and attack. Their teamwork was evident as they created several scoring opportunities, testing the opposition's defense and goalkeeper. Defensively, the team held strong, with notable performances from the backline who effectively thwarted Stockport’s advances. However, the opposition opposition scored the only goal of the match in the first half.

The second half saw the team push for an equaliser, maintaining pressure and exhibiting resilience. Whilst they were unable to convert their chances into goals, the experience provided valuable learning opportunities for the players, highlighting areas for improvement in both their attacking and defensive strategies. Overall, the U12a team can take pride in their performance, and with continued effort and focus, they will surely find success in future matches.

The U12B team showcased their growing connection and development, particularly as the game progressed. The first half saw shared control between both teams, with play often congested in the middle of the pitch. Stockport were the first to break the deadlock, but the U12B team responded well, pulling a goal back to level the score before the halftime whistle.

The second half was a different story, with the team stepping up their performance significantly. Determination increased, and with better spacing and more thoughtful control of the ball, they began to take their time before releasing passes. This shift allowed them to maintain more possession and create several promising chances. The players grew in confidence as the game wore on, working hard to build connections on the field and demonstrating excellent team play. Unfortunately, despite their efforts and marked improvement, Stockport managed to score a second goal, leaving the final score at 1-2.

Though the result didn't go their way, the U12B team can be proud of their performance. Their progression, particularly in communication, spacing, and decision-making, is a promising sign for future matches. Well done to the entire team for their effort and resilience!
