Year 7 and Year 9 Girls Athletics Teams crowned Fylde Coast Champions

It was another successful day in athletics for AKS with more trophies and records at the Fylde Coast Athletics Championships.

The Year 7 team, competing in their first Championships, finished as Fylde Coast Champions after some superb performances. AKS athletes dominated on the track winning four of the five races with Camilla W 80m, Olivia W 150m, Elsie T 800m and the relay team all taking top spot. In the field Olivia W jumped a personal best 4.15m to claim her second victory and Adriana E made it an AKS 1 – 2 with a PB jump of 4.00m. Camilla W jumped 1.22m in the High Jump to claim 2nd place with Annie L claiming 2nd in the Rounders Ball throw whilst there was a 3rd place for Lauren M in the discus. Jenay C finished in 4th place in the Rounders ball and there were 7th place performances from Isla C in the 800m and Victoria H in the Discus. The team claimed top spot 11 points ahead of nearest rivals Kirkham.

The Year 9 team were also crowned Fylde Coast Champions after a real team performance. Talented athlete Charlotte L continued her fine form with a winning leap of 4.17m in the long jump and a second place in the 200m . Hannah A ran a superb time of 49.0s in her first ever 300m and then won the High Jump with a leap of 1.30m. Amelia H continued her return to form winning the 75mHurdles with a time of 12.7s and she also finished second in the discus with a season’s best of 21.65m while Lily G gained valuable points winning the shot (7.44m) and Sophie S finished second in the javelin. A fine run in the 1500m by Sophia M saw her in 3rd spot while Ella A added valuable points finisheing 5th in both the 100m and Long Jump. Rosie L threw 18.35m for 5th place in the shot and Lucy W ran 29.2s for 6th in the 200m.

The Year 8 team also enjoyed a lot of 1st place finishes with the pick of the bunch being Shelby Q who broke the AKS HJ record with a leap of 1.30m. Talented athlete Camilla C again took top spot in both the 200m and Long Jump with Olivia D winning the 100m and Anna V the Javelin with a PB of 25.50m. Gracie G jumped 1.27m to take 2nd place in the HJ with Olivia D 3rd in Discus. A superb run in the 75mHurdles by Reya B saw her in 3rd place, Isabel A  placed 7th in the 1500m and Maisie Williams added valuable points finishing in 8th place in both 800m and shot.. The team secured 2nd place finish in the team competition.

The Year 10/11 team saw Kirtika S run superbly in the 300m to take second place and a season’s best throw of 20.44m in the discus by Eve C saw her in top spot. Lucy W was also at her best to win the hurdles while Lisa P ran a superbly paced 1500m race to take 2nd place in a superb time of 5m36s. Laura A scored points in the High jump clearing 1.23m and in the 800m with a time of 3m12 whilst  Anya D finished 3rd in the 200m with a time of 31.1s. Daisy E and Harper C scored points in the Shot and the team secured 3rd place overall.

With two trophies, a school record and a host of personal and season best performances for a large number of athletes it certainly was another successful afternoon of athletics at AKS.
