Selected pupils from AKS Design & Technology enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Fylde Rotary Challenge Day, held at the YMCA in St Annes.
Twenty pupils from Years 8–10 worked in teams of four to design and build a vehicle using a pulley system. The challenge required their vehicles to travel a set distance, pass under a bridge, and remove waste blocking the road. Alongside this, teams demonstrated their thinking through reflective design portfolios, which they completed and submitted on time.
Throughout the day, pupils showed excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and a fantastic sense of teamwork. It was particularly pleasing to see students across different year groups working collaboratively and supporting one another.
Special thanks go to AKS staff, J Cregan (Science), our minibus driver D Leigh, and S Burke, Head of Design & Technology, for their support.
We are delighted to announce that AKS achieved first place in both the KS3 and KS4 challenges. Congratulations to Lucas and Lottie (Year 8), Darcey and Thomas H (Year 9), and Thomas C, Noah, Jack and Jacob (Year 10) on this outstanding achievement.
We also extend our congratulations to all schools who took part and showcased such innovative talent, and our thanks to the dedicated Rotary team for organising another inspiring and well-run event.
