It was another superb day of athletics as AKS U13 Girls competed in the ESAA Schools Cup in Abingdon against the top schools in the country.
Despite very difficult wet and windy conditions all the girls rose to the occasion of competing on this huge stage and performed to their best and the team finished in a superb 10th position.
The day got off to the perfect start when Amelia H ran a season best and record equalling 12.8s to win the hurdles and score 25 points. Great performances from Charlotte L and Camilla C in the 200m also scored 25 points both with superb times of 27.9s, which was also Camilla’s personal best and broke her own school record.
Top individual points scorer was Anna V who contributed a massive 46 points to the team total with a great 800m run of 2m44.6s ( 23 points ) and a Javelin throw of 20.34m ( 23 points). Hannah A ran an excellent 800m to set a new PB with 2m51.2 to bag a further 20 points for the team and there was also PB’s for Olivia D in the 100m ( 14.1s) along with Lilly G ( 7.30m) and Ellie S ( 6.77m) in the shot. The High Jump took place in horribly wet conditions but solid performances by Hannah A and Rosie L saw both clear 1.23m while a gutsy performance by Sophia M in the 1500m ( 6m23.7s) added a further 16 points. Sophie S gained valuable points in both the Javelin ( 18.09m) and 100m ( 15.3s ) while Ellie S (49.6s) and Lucy W ( 50.2s) ran well in the 300m.
Overall it was a superb day which saw AKS athletes compete against some of the top athletes in the country and they certainly rose to the occasion and can now boast being ranked as the 10th best U13 athletics team in the country. A superb achievement!
