AKS netball teams enjoyed a block fixture against QEGS, Blackburn and the U14 squad came out on top winning by two goals with the U15’s losing by the same margin.
AKS U14’s were nervous to begin with however they quickly found their spirit and began to link their passes well. Sienna C, Reya B, Darcy and Shelby Q worked well in attack, moving the ball through the court with determination to create scoring opportunities. Both teams were evenly matched and showed resilience in their play which was reflected in the halftime score of 4-4.
The third quarter was also even but in the final quarter, we started to enjoy more possession with outstanding defending through a plethora of interceptions and rebounds by Emily R. Claudia K and Li-Anna G supported on the wings with persistence and AKS scored twice in quick succession to secure a superb 8-6 victory. A bravely fought contest between two equal teams with AKS finishing winners and it was fabulous start to the Netball programme. Emily R had a memorable first match for AKS being selected as player of the match along with Anika R.
The U15’s team also had a closely fought game with again two points separating the teams but this time it was QEGS who were infront at the final whistle 27 – 25. The lead changed hands several times during the match with Maisie McK working well in the attacking circle to create and score many goals while at the other end Niamh M defended superbly and both were selected as the Players of the Match awards.
The U12 & U13 teams both came up against skilful QEGS teams and struggled to match their fast, accurate play. The U13’s lost 3 – 16 despite the best efforts of Olivia W and Lauren M who were the players of the match whilst that award went to Charlotte R and Gracie S in the U12’s who also lost.
Overall a great morning of competitive netball enjoyed by all the girls.
