AKS Prep School - Outdoor Learning

"Play in the dirt, because life is too short to always have clean fingernails"

AKS Preparatory school is now giving all children in school the opportunity to explore their learning outside. By getting active and taking learning out into the outdoors, our children will explore new ways to enhance their learning and investigate topics and skills in a much more practical way. Outdoor Learning stretches across a broad range of activities and learning opportunities outside the classroom and offers cross curricular links with Science, Geography, Art, Maths and English. The pupils will challenge themselves in a different way and the Outdoor learning curriculum will help children with problem solving skills and encourage a love for the outdoors and the local environment. We have weekly sessions for all year groups to give them an opportunity to develop their own learning and enhance the education experience through outdoor exploration.

The children will enjoy a range of activities including planting seeds, cooking on a campfire, den building, orienteering, photography, artwork using natural materials, storytelling and many more activities. Everyone will be encouraged to take ownership of outdoor areas and tidy up in the same way as they would indoors. Appreciating our amazing locality, the school environment and creating a respect for the outdoors are just some of the benefits to taking children outside. We want to increase the awareness of the environment, for all our children to recognise and appreciate the natural world around them.
