AKS' new Performing Arts department reflects best practice

PUBLISHED 24 September 2019

This new academic year has seen the creation of the first ever 'Performing Arts' department at AKS Lytham, merging the former Drama and Music departments, along with co-curricular dance provision. The combining of the former departments is an exciting development, meaning that the staff can work more closely together to provide even more engaging opportunities for our students, both in and out of the classroom.

Director of Performing Arts, Michael Waterhouse said, "A combined department such as this is a fantastic way to build on the outstanding reputation of dance, drama and music at AKS Lytham, and mirrors professional practice where creative disciplines work in unison. I am very excited about the potential this new department has to enhance the already exemplary provision at our school. One example of this is our new timetabled drama lessons in the Prep School, helping to embed important performance skills earlier in our students' development."

The first joint project by the new combined department was launched last week - our school musical for 2020, 'The Addams Family'.  The show will be performed at The Lowther Pavilion Theatre in January and promises to be another spectacular production.
