With a track record in delivering outstanding results and world class character education, AKS Lytham builds foundations for life

“At AKS we believe that the best possible education is not only academically rigorous but provides a broad range of opportunities and experiences to ensure that everyone, whatever their individual aspirations, is able to embrace the challenges of the world with confidence.” Mr Harrow, Headmaster

Our track record of results is unparalleled in the region, in either the state or independent sector. Over the past five years, 51 per cent of GCSE exams taken at AKS were awarded grades 9-7/A*; 60 per cent of all A-level grades have been A*, A or B, with over a third being awarded A*/A.

Our students consistently win places on competitive university courses or on higher apprenticeship schemes. This year several students are going on to study medicine at a range of Russell Group universities; whilst others will read biology, computer science, psychology and music at universities such as Sheffield, UCL, Manchester and Leeds.

After receiving his A level results (A*A*A*A) and a place at UCL to study computer science, head boy, Jeremy reflected: “I’ve appreciated both the support and academic challenge that I’ve received during my time here – I couldn’t have imagined a better place to grow up.” England U18 hockey captain, Mollie who gained a place in biochemistry and genetics at Nottingham University added: “I’m particularly grateful to my teachers who have enabled me to pursue my hockey by supporting me outside of lessons.”

Beyond academic ambition, we support our students to build leadership and teamwork skills; to build a social conscience and increase their employability. We do this by utilising the Round Square framework, the global leader in character education and through the high participation rate in our extensive co-curricular programme; for example, 65 per cent of our Year 10s participate in the Duke of Edinburgh awards.

We offer a diverse range of sports, from rugby, hockey, netball, athletics and cricket through to handball, table tennis, football, basketball and many more. Our success is reflected in students playing at County and National level for a wide range of sports. The culture of performance continues throughout our senior school, through our creative arts programmes, as evidenced in our sell-out shows at Lowther Pavilion and exceptional music examination and competition results.

This rounded development has resulted in our longstanding success with initiatives like the Tycoon in Schools business enterprise competition. Our ‘Bottle Boutique’ team was the latest to win this national competition in 2019.

Mr McIntyre, Head of Business Education and Tycoons’ team leader, commented: “The entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and work ethic are attributes we seek to build in all our students, whether they choose to study business or not. This creates a culture where students are confident to take the lead, as well as being able to form strong teams. This in turn has resulted in our excellent track record and prepares our students for the world of work.”
