Science at AKS rocks! What a way to learn!

PUBLISHED 23 January 2020

The Year 5 children at AKS have been busy learning all about air resistance this week as part of their Science unit on Forces.

They have enjoyed investigating if the size and weight of a parachute affects the speed at which it falls to the ground. Additionally, they have learned all about upward thrust and how an upward net force on a downward falling object causes the object to slow down.

The children have been writing predictions and using their recently learned knowledge and understanding of gravity to further plan, carry out and evaluate their experiments. They particularly enjoyed making and fair testing their parachutes whilst considering a range of variables. They have been able to write thoughtful conclusions and choose appropriate graphs and charts to represent their results.

Next week they will be making waves as they continue our study of ‘forces’ exploring water resistance – all hands on deck!
