Match Report from last week's AJIS U11 hockey

On a beautiful spring day at UCLAN Sports Arena, AKS U11 Hockey Squad set out to retain their title. The team had a slow start drawing nil all with Kirkham. The second game AKS struggled against a strong Kings Macclesfield team and did well to come away with a one all draw, Ruby scoring the equaliser.

The team then woke up with a convincing five nil victory over Cheadle Hulme, Anna V scoring twice, Camilla, Ruby and supersub Gracie all netting. The team continued to improve and with a hat trick from Anna and another good finish from Lucy beat Queens Chester. The final group match was against Kings Chester who were playing well. They were no match for AKS with captain Ruby scoring twice following Lucy’s opener.

The semi-finals saw AKS pitted once again against our local rivals and this time the girls were determined to improve their earlier performance, which they did with a convincing 2 nil victory. Anna and Lucy’s goals ensured a place in the final.

Having had a very hard game against Kings Macc in the group stage we were expecting a tough final; however, as they got more tired AKS grew stronger. Esther started the scoring after some dogged play in the D, this was followed by another far post finish from Lucy. The defence of Georgia, Sophia and Esther worked hard to thwart any attacks, with Niamh making sure that nothing got passed her. Gracie did her usual trick of coming off the bench and scoring with her 1st touch. Ruby finished off the game with another excellent finish.

The team played some outstanding hockey and thoroughly deserved to retain their title. They were a credit to the school, their parents and the coaches.

Well done to everyone!
