Science lessons at AKS adapt to provide practical teaching

To adapt to the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic Science has taken steps to ensure the safety of pupils and staff whilst carrying out practicals. As you are aware each year group is a bubble. Specific apparatus and materials are kept ready for use within these bubbles. No equipment for science practicals can be shared between bubbles unless it’s been meticulously cleaned or quarantined for 72 hours after use. CLEAPSS is an advisory service providing support in science and technology and their advice is being followed to ensure this happens.  As guidance is updated, we adapt too.

Alcohol based hand gels cannot be used in labs so each teaching group washes their hands before and after a lesson in a lab.

Some practicals may be reduced to Teacher Demos to reduce walking in a lab.

We have all heard and used the phrase ‘unprecedented times’ over the last few months, this is no barrier to the hands on aspect to Science so we are taking steps to continue this important aspect to learning.
