Johnnie's 50 miles in 50 days Charity Challenge

PUBLISHED 26 March 2021

With his challenge set, Year 6 pupil Johnnie is looking to raise much-needed funds for child’s mental health charity, Place2Be, and follow in the footsteps of his idol Marcus Rashford and the nation's favourite Sir Captain Tom Moore.

With his inspiration taken from both men during lockdown, and with Sir Capt Tom Moore's amazing £33m+ raised for the NHS, Johnnie had the thought to combine both his love of sport and desire to raise money for a local charity that is at the forefront of his mind right now.

Through his lunchtime running club and cross country at school and with the support of his family who often go running together, Johnnie came up with the challenge to run 50miles in 50days to not only challenge himself but also to celebrate his mum, Julie, who will be celebrating her 50th birthday this year.

This inspirational gesture and dedication has also seen his mum take to the streets around AKS along with classmates, Mrs Ilhan (Head of AKS Nursery & Prep) and fellow staff members at AKS.

Johnnie has been an inspiration to us all and shown what can be achieved with the smallest of ideas.

So far Johnnie has raised £1,491 and has run 26 miles since starting his challenge on the 1st March. An amazing achievement that has surpassed his own expectations of £250 that he set at the very beginning.

With the support of his family, friends, and teachers, Johnnie has set himself a new target of £2,000 with 25 days to go.

If you wish to help support Johnnie achieve his target and go above and beyond this total then please donate on his page at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/johnnie-rae

From everyone at AKS, Johnnie, we wish you all the very best of luck!!!
