It was another festival of athletics at AKS as the girls Year 7, 8 & 9/10 teams faced Kirkham Grammar in another full programme of athletics events which saw more School Records broken and  AKS coming out on top in the overall match competition 151 points to Kirkham’s 130 points. AKS won the Year 7 & 8 team events while Kirkham won the Year 9/ 10.

Talented Year 7 athlete Amelia H was in record breaking form again as a superb run in the 200m saw her clock 30.4seconds to set a new best but she lost her 100m record to fellow athlete Charlotte L who, in a fantastic race for the line, clock 14.2 seconds to take the record from Amelia. Another Year 7 record fell in the Javelin as Sophie S threw a personal best of 14.35m to get her name in the record books. Other winning performances came from Poppy M in the 800m, Hannah A in the High Jump and Amelia H in the hurdles along with many other good performances that saw AKS win the team event 59 points to Kirkham’s 36.

There were also some outstanding performances in the Yr 8 events with Layla W winning the 200m ahead of Maddison A with a time of 29.0sec just 0.2s away from the school record. Layla achieved a treble of wins with victories in the Long Jump and 100m whist Lisa P had two wins in the hurdles and 800m. Kirkitka S earned valuable points with second place finishes in the 800m, 100m and Long Jump and after all the events AKS amassed 49 points ahead of Kirkham with 35 points.

In the Year 9 & 10 competition AKS came up against some superb athletes from Kirkham and gave a great account of themselves producing some excellent performances. Olivia M improved her season’s best in the 300m to win in 48.4secs while Anya J ran well in the hurdles to record 15.7sec in second place.  Anya also came second in the shot (7.89m) and Discus (21.52m) . Beth R produced a season’s best in the javelin with a throw if 21.30m for second spot while Maddie B was 2nd in the 800m with a time of 2min 44s. Despite a lot of great performances AKS lost out to Kirkham 43 points to 59 points.

Another superb evening of athletics and all the athletes from both schools now look forward to the English Schools Cup Competition after half term.
