Year 9 'Hardspell' Competition PUBLISHED 01 July 2021 The Year 9 bubble played host to two exciting semi-finals and a tense, thrilling final match-up during the post-internal examination fine weather of mid-June, as the four Houses vied for spelling bragging rights as teams of three went head-to-head in verbal combat. Five rounds of buzzer-beating action ensued, with the semi-final contests seeing Samlesbury and Leighton advance to the title-deciding event in front of what can only be described as a heaving, expectant audience of their peers. With Mr Smyth in charge of the scoreboard and Mr Bridges in charge of the questions, proceedings unfolded favourably for Leighton, who took a commanding lead at the midway point, only for Samlesbury to come storming back in the final round of buzz-in spellings. In the end, Leighton grimly held on by a single point - the winning team of Jay B, Anya K, and Anirudh V wearing beaming, but relieved smiles of sweet spelling success. Well done to all of those who took part! AUTHOR: AKS Lytham PUBLISHED: 01 July 2021 CATEGORIES: News
