Year 6 visit Democracies exhibition at the Liverpool Tate Gallery PUBLISHED 29 June 2023 Last Thursday the Year 6 children enjoyed their Round Square, Service, and Democracy trip to Liverpool. Following a boat trip across the River Mersey, the highlight of the trip was to see the ‘Democracies’ exhibition at the Liverpool Tate Gallery. The exhibition really embedded their understanding of what a democracy represents and what it means to live in one, protecting each person’s individual rights and upholding ideas such as freedom of speech. The children witnessed artwork created by marginalised groups and how they have used their Art as a platform to fight and protest for recognition and representation through the years. The children left the gallery understanding how powerful and influential Art can be, enough to change people’s attitudes and global policies for the better. It’s true what they say, a picture really can paint a thousand words! Thank you to our Round Square Service and Democracy pillar leaders Katie and Rupert. They reminded us how important it is to promote responsible social action that is based on a deep understanding of the challenges and issues faced by individuals and communities in need of support throughout the world.
