On Friday 10th February, 42 students and 5 staff boarded our luxury coach to the ski resort of Obertauern in Austria. The journey went very smoothly and we arrived at the Schaidberg Hotel the following morning ahead of schedule. We checked into the hotel and relaxed for the morning before walking to the ski hire shop to collect our ski equipment. After dinner and our welcome meeting, we went to bed for a very well earnt night’s sleep. We awoke to beautiful blue skies and sunshine and after breakfast headed off to meet our ski instructors. We were quickly and efficiently sorted into four skiing groups and set off to explore the slopes. The snow was in perfect condition as everyone enjoyed their first session of skiing.
Throughout the week all groups skied fantastically well and with the help and support of their instructors made massive progress. Our evening activities keep us very busy with two trips to the local thermal spa, night skiing, a quiz night, and a disco night. All too soon, it was time to return our ski hire, pack up and start the return journey. The trip was fantastic and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff and students involved for making the week so successful.

Below are some thoughts from Katie, one of our Sixth Form skiers.
The AKS Ski Trip was a wonderful experience for everyone who attended, with a wide range of activities taking place. The skiing that we did within the days contained a balance of constructive coaching from our instructors, along with us being able to ski without doing exercises and practice what we had learned. Although the trip was about skiing, we made sure to enjoy Austria in different ways, such as having lunch on the slopes and exploring the town whilst having fun with friends. The ski trip was also a great opportunity to make new friends from other year groups and socialise with people who you have never met before within the school community, for example, people within your rooms or ski groups, allowing us to have fun with bigger groups of people on the trip. The trip was so well organised and definitely had something for everyone, making it a great experience overall.
