AKS Sport was delighted to host the Nora Lipscombe Under 13 Sevens Tournament earlier this week, as the competition has not run since 2020 due to inclemental weather. The day saw 16 schools from across the North of England participating in the day, with 180 students taking part in the event.
The success of the competition on the field was aided by the support of AKS Sixth Form students who helped to run the event.
Reflecting on the tournaments Mr Holmes, Director Of Rugby at AKS said “I was immensely impressed by the level of the performance from all of the schools involved, this has served as a reminder of the hotbed of rugby talent we have across the North West. Well done to the Cup winners and we look forward to hosting our second annual 7’s competition for the U15s on Thursday.
Within the competition itself, saw some scintillating play across 48 games of rugby, with a staggering 327 tries scored. Following the group stage, Wirral Grammar, Lancaster Royal Grammar School, West Hill and Manchester Grammar progressed into the Cup, with Lancaster RGS topping the group following a strongly contested match against runners-up Wirral.
In the Trophy competition, Bolton topped the group with Kirkham GS coming runners-up. In the Plate competition, Scarisbrick came first ahead of Hutton Grammar. Finally, in the Bowl competition, Merchant Taylors won with the hosts AKS Lytham as runners up.
The AKS squad grew in confidence and understanding as the day evolved, which saw them perform well in the Bowl competition, winning 5 tries to 4 in an end-to-end game against Stockport grammar. The squad backed this up with a win against Stonyhurst but lost on a 3-1 victory to Merchant Taylors in the final game of the competition.
Overall this was a wonderful day and a great experience for all students involved.
