Another fantastic morning of hockey against Altrincham Grammar School

It was another super morning of hockey for AKS with all four teams winning against strong opponents in Altrincham  Grammar School for Girls.

The U15 side went into their match knowing they were in for a tough challenge, having lost to Altrincham earlier in the year, but a superb team performance with everyone raising their game saw us dominate for large parts of the game and enjoy the lion’s share of possession. We did get reward for our efforts in the first half however when Laura A scored from a superb strike at a corner to make it 1 – 0 at half time. After the break Talent Academy players Lucy W, Lisa P and Kirtika S showed their class dominating play by constantly thwarted the Altrincham attacks or attacking their defence to create more scoring chances but we just could not find the net and the score finished as a well deserved 1 – 0 victory. Kirtika S was the player of the match.

The U13 match was certainly a game of two halves. AKS started slowly and were caught sleeping in the first few minutes of the match and before the girls knew it, they were behind as Altrincham scored to make it 0 – 1.  Although AKS managed to equalise later in the half, the U13's were still not firing on all cylinders and Altrincham were the next to score and they went in to half time with a 2-1 lead .  After the break the team got their act together and started the second half with a bit more fight in them, and started playing with more organisation and commitment. Improved passing and more intent in our play saw us start to enjoy more of the ball and create more scoring opportunities and we soon drew level. Player of the match Maisie W stepped up another notch, demonstrating great skill and determination to score a further 3 goals to add to those of Camilla C and Lilia N to make the  final score 5 – 2.

The U12 team continued their unbeaten run with an impressive 12 – 0 win. We attacked at pace and forwards Camilla W and Olivia W had a field day infront of goal scoring 4 goals apiece. There were also goals from Isla C(2) Isabelle C and Annie L to make it a anther comprehensive win.

The U12B started slowly but once they got going improved throughout the game. Some exciting runs from Connie F and Gabby H- S led to some close shots on goal but these went just wide and the scores remained level.  Defensively Georgina W and Elsie T kept it tight working well together to not allow any surging runs from Altrincham Grammar. Casey McC made a huge impact when she got the ball and managed to put one past the AGGS goalie to take us into the lead. Other goals were scored by Maya B and Gabby H-S put two away and the final score was 4 – 0 to AKS.  It was a great effort from the team and with a couple of injuries, the girls had to play in a variety of positions and adapted well.

Overall a great morning of hockey which demonstrated how much all the players and teams have progressed over the weeks and we look forward to the Annual U12 Jean Torrance Tournament on Saturday with teams travelling from as far afield as Scotland and the Midlands to take part.
