After success on the local netball scene the AKS U14 Netball team pitted themselves against some of the best netball schools in the county by taking part in the Lancashire County Netball tournament.

The day was far from conducive to good netball as the team took to the court for their first match in very wet and windy conditions which made keeping possession difficult. Rather shell shocked by the fast, accurate play of our opponents, All Hallows, we struggled to get free from our markers and often lost possession which enabled All Hallows to forge ahead and claim the win at the final hooter despite the best efforts of defenders Niamh M, Emelie B and Ellie S.

The second game against Scarisbrick School saw us play much better improving both our passing and dodging and keeping possession more easily to move the ball down the court and give our shooters scoring opportunities.Despite this, however, Scarisbrick proved too strong and secured the victory.

Eventual tournament winners Clitheroe Grammar were our next opponents and they dominated all aspects of the game and we lost confidence which enabled them to capitalise on both their own and our centre passes and win easily. The last game was another tough challenge against St.Michaels who had several top county players. Captain Lilly G led by example with her hardworking centre court play but she could not prevent St.Michaels coming out on top.

It was superb to see the girls never giving up in any match and everyone worked hard on the court up to the last whistle. The 11 girls in the squad can take great credit from taking part in the tournament and accept the challenge of playing at this level. Although not winning, they no doubt have learnt a great deal from playing against some of the talented and more experienced netballers and teams on show at the tournament.
