It has been a very busy and successful start to the athletics season for a number of talented young AKS athletes with a host of records being broken at the recent Lancashire Championships.

Year 7 pupil Camilla C came away with a clutch of both medals and records as she won 100m in school record of 13.6s , came 2nd in 70mHurdles in school record of 12.2s, equalled the school record in the Long Jump with a leap of 4.22m for 2nd place and claimed a fourth record and win in the 200m 28.6s.

Another Year 7 record breaker was Anna V who smashed the old school record with a throw of 27.29m to be crowned Lancashire Champion and she has added the 800m record to her haul in the recent Schools Cup. Anna also claimed the bronze medal in the 70mHurdles (12.7) finished 4th in the shot ( 7.39m ) and 5th in the 200m. Special mention to Year 6 Olivia W who, competing against older girls qualified for the final of the U13 200m and finished a superb 6th with a time of 31.2s.

Year 8 pupils also enjoyed success as Charlotte L picked up a superb bronze in the U15 200m running against athletes a year older with a superb time of 28.1s and finished 4th in the 100m. Amelia H also finished 4th in the 75mHurdles with a time of 13.3s.

Overall a superb start for all the athletes and the future certainly looks bright for them and AKS athletics!
