U15 Hockey Team crowned Lancashire Champions to complete the 'treble'

The AKS U15 hockey team made it an impressive County treble for the school as they clinched the U15 tile in fine style playing superb hockey and scoring 17 goals while not conceding any!

The first game against Stonyhurst saw us start well winning a couple of attacking corners early on and nerves were settled when Carly W converted  a through pass from Charlotte T to take us in to a 1 – 0 lead. We continued to dominate and went further ahead when Carly W was on hand to pick up a rebound from the GK and find the net after a superb drag flick from Layla W was saved. Jessie A made it 3 – 0 before the break.

At half time Laura A moved into an unusual position as CF and this proved inspired as she was in the perfect position to score the next two goals to make it 5 – 0 whilst still not playing our best hockey. Dynamic play in the centre by Charlotte T saw her constantly break lines and another  perfect  pass to Carly W saw her score her hat-trick goal to make it 6 – 0. Two more goals from Lucy W and Lisa P before the final whistle made the final score as impressive 8 – 0.

The final match against Kirkham was a title decider as both sides were unbeaten. Knowing we had to play our A game we started on the front foot and dominated from the first whistle attacking with pace down our right and we deservedly went ahead when Laura A was on hand again to sweep the ball into the net to make it 1 – 0. With our noses ahead we grew in confidence and started to pass the ball to each other to leave Kirkham chasing shadows and we went further ahead when Carly W found the net in only the 6th minute.

Now totally dominating the ball we played some mature passing hockey with Anya K, Layla W and Carly W linking well on the right and putting Kirkham under constant pressure and two more goals from Laura Arts saw us go in to the break 4 goals ahead.

More impressive passing 1 - 2 hockey saw us continue to dominate in the second half. Defending well to thwart the Kirkham attacks with Lisa P controlling at the back and switching play out of congested areas saw us continue to create chances and we went further ahead when a Carly W  cross found Laura A infront of goal and she made no mistake in finding the net for 4th goal.  Before the final whistle there were further goals from Charlotte T at a corner, another for Laura A and two from Carly W to seal a dominant, impressive win.

Playing superb passing hockey with 1 – 2 combinations completely out playing our opponents we finished as deserved winners of the Lancashire U15  trophy and made it an impressive ‘treble’ of County Championship wins for AKS.

All the staff and spectators agreed the level of hockey played was some of the best they had ever seen by young players of this age and was a credit to all the squad members and the hard work they, and the coaches, have put in over the years.

Overall a superb week on the hockey field for AKS!
