A tremendous week on the hockey field saw the AKS U14 team play superb passing hockey and deservedly being crowned Lancashire Champions with the team winning all their matches in the Lancashire Tournament.

The talented U14 side started the tournament in fine style with a 6 – 0 victory over Lytham. We dominated the ball early on and Layla W opened the scoring with a fine individual goal. Layla became provider as she went round several defenders and provided a perfect pass to Eve C  in the centre of the goal and she made no mistake to find the net to make it 2 – 0 at the break. We increased our lead to 3 when Kirtika S forced the ball over the line after a goalmouth mele and a Layla W  hat-trick, including two great penalty corners strikes, made the final score 6 – 0 and we had our first points on the board.

In our second game against Stonyhurst a well worked corner early on saw Kirtika S open the scoring  and Eve C increased our lead minutes later. We continued to dominate possession and as confidence grew  we won several more corners from which Layla W made it 3 – 0 with a superb strike before half time. After the break more superb passing hockey saw Layla W, Lucy W, Laura A and Anya D link well together  on the right and we created a number of chances and Anya D was on hand to deflect a Lisa Perry shot to make it 4 – 0.  Layla W  made it 5 – 0 with a superb drag flick at a corner and at the final whistle we had another win under our belts.

The final game saw us against Kirkham who were also undefeated. We again started on the front foot with Layla W, Lucy W and Amelia H controlling midfield and we won a corner that Layla W converted with an unstoppable drag flick into the roof of the net to take us into a deserved lead. Kirkham did enjoy possession of their own but great, determined defending by Lisa P, Charlotte C, Esther T and Laura A thwarted their efforts and we scored the next goal when Lucy T was on hand to put in a Eve C  shot to make it 2 – 0. With confidence growing we played our best hockey of the tounrament switching the point of attack intelligently and putting Kirkham on the back foot..  Great driving runs from Laura A  on the right constantly put  the Kirkham defence under pressure and  Layla W was a constant threat going forwards and at the final whistle the score remained 2 - 0 and we were deservedly crowned Lancashire U14 Champions.

A superb day where all the squad contributed to our fantatsci display of passing hockey . Congratulations to every member of the 18 player squad.
