Hockey is flying high both on an individual and team level at AKS. Over 70 fixtures have taken place midweek and on Saturdays from our youngest members of the school Year 3 all the way up to the senior hockey players since we started back in September.
Over 140 students have trained hard to improve individual skills along with team play in games afternoons, lunchtime and after school practices. Their commitment to improve both their fitness and skill levels is highly commended. The school teams they represent are also producing phenomenal results across each age group in the regular fixtures, well done.
A number of senior players have also been giving up their time to help coach our younger pupils, encouraging and inspiring them to work hard and helping them improve techniques, tactics and their understanding of the game.
In National competitions our U13A and U15A squads have been competing in the Independent National Schools competitions in their respective age groups and both reached the last eight Nationally and got to play in the quarter finals; U13 v Leatherhead School, and U15 v Framlington College, Suffolk.
The U16 team had tremendous success and made it through to the quarter finals of the of the National Schools competition, as one of the last 8 schools in England.
In the North of England Indoor Championships our U16 team narrowly missed reaching the National finals by one goal and finished in the runner up spot.
34 AKS students have also received Representative Honours at Lancashire Academy, Regional Performance Centres, North of England and England level and all should be highly congratulated on their personal achievements in this sport.
