At AKS Lytham Senior School our class sizes are never more than 24 students, and it is often quite a lot less than that depending on the subject.

Yes, we would encourage anybody interested in joining AKS Lytham to come and have a chat to our staff and admissions team. We have students who join us for various reasons at various times of their lives. Some students have been with us since Prep School, others join in Year 10 for their GCSE’s.

To ensure that all of our students are both stretched and supported in their development, our maths classes are streamed.

In general, our other subject are largely not streamed, however these are different mix of classes across the subjects.

We want our students to feel happy, safe and secure, so that they can do well in what they want to do. We have a fantastic pastoral team and system in place, that will start before student’s have even joined Year 7.

Due to our relatively small form groups and class sizes, we can flag up any areas for discussion quickly. Our form tutors will make direct contact with the Parents once the students have been at the school for a few weeks. As well as this, there are regular reports available for parents, as well as ‘Parent Teacher’ meetings. We monitor the students both academically and pastorally.

We are a holistic school. We offer a core academic curriculum, but also offer a range of other sport and co-curricular activities for the students to partake in as well. We believe that this is fundamental to our students’ development and growth.

Year 7 students will primarily focus on core subjects and as they move through the school years, they can specialise in certain subjects.

We have a range of events and activities to ensure that new Year 7 students have experienced the school and the teachers before starting, and that they have made friends with fellow students, ensuring that they are not alone when they come to school in September.

 The idea of doing a test or exam to join Year 7 might seem rather daunting, but please do not worry about it.

We use a computerised test that essentially is looking to measure potential, separate from the syllabus, that will take approximately 1 hour.

However, our entrance criteria is, that if you can access our curriculum, enjoy it, and do well out of it, then you are welcome. The test itself isn’t used to be extremely selective.

You will then have a chat with one of our senior staff members, to tell us all about yourself and what you enjoy.

Along side parent – teacher meetings, parents will receive two reports every term to gauge grades, effort and attainment, as well as full reports.

If parents have any particular concerns, they can get in touch with the student’s form teacher or their head of school.
