Helping Students Find the Right Path: Year 9 Morrisby Aspirations Assessments

Last week, our Year 9 students completed their Morrisby Aspirations Assessments, an important part of our ongoing work to help students understand themselves and plan confidently for their futures after education.

The assessment sessions encourage students to reflect on their interests, strengths and ambitions. By taking time to focus on their abilities and motivations, students began to explore possible career pathways and next steps for their education.

Through a series of assessments and questionnaires, the Morrisby Aspirations Assessment identifies underlying strengths and potential, offering personalised subject and career recommendations based on each student’s individual profile. This allows the students to explore options that suit their abilities, interests and personality, often opening opportunities they may not have previously considered.

We believe that our careers programme is an essential part of preparing students for life after school. This approach was recently recognised in our 2025 ISI inspection, which highlighted the ‘significant strength’ of our careers. The ISI report noted the breadth of guidance available to students and recognised the mentorship on offer to the students.

Leading this work is Zoe Uphill, Head of Careers at AKS Lytham, who works closely with students throughout their time at the school.

“It is a privilege to help students take their next steps with clarity, confidence and aspiration.”

“Our programme offers meaningful encounters with a wide range of professionals and personalised advice that grows with each student's interests,” she said. “Inspectors praised the precision of our planning and the exceptional individualised support we provide.”

The Morrisby Aspirations Assessments are just one example of the many careers-focused experiences students take part in. From early exploration in the lower years through to tailored guidance and mentoring opportunities later on, careers education is carefully woven through AKS Lytham school life. This ensures that students are not only well informed but also feel supported to make choices that are right for them.

By helping students understand their strengths and the opportunities available to them, we aim to ensure every young person leaves AKS Lytham feeling future-ready, confident in their decisions and prepared for their path ahead.
