AKS Year 7 Netballers made a winning start to their school netball careers with two great wins against Scarisbrick School.

The A team were playing in Round 1 of the national cup and despite it being the first time the girls had played together in a competitive match they made a confident start with good dodging and accurate passing. Sasha linked the attack and defence superbly as centre and she followed the centre pass plan to keep possession which in turn created shooting opportunities and Kirtika was calm under the post to convert our chances.  A new position for Lisa at WA saw her dominating the centre court but Scarisbrick kept possession well and AKS found themselves having to defend.  Layla at GD showed great skill on intercepting and gaining possession whilst  Lucy at GK made sure that the Scarisbrick GS didn’t get close to the post and used her athleticism to regain the ball for AKS and at the end of the first quarter AKS were 6-0 ahead.
The second quarter saw Sasha and Lisa continue to dominate centre court both in attack and regaining procession and with Kirtika’s shooting gaining consistency we edged further ahead. Connie at GS provided great rebound opportunities and the score continued to increase.
Lola at WD worked hard to link the defence with the attack and Lucy made improvements throughout the game and with us raising the standard of our play we forged further ahead and at the final whistle the scoreline was an impressive 16 -3 win and we now progress into the second round of the cup. Players of the match were Lucy and Layla.

The AKS B team also played their first competitive match, a friendly against Scarisbrick School. After a nervous start the girls soon settled and started to dodge and pass more effectively to keep possession. Despite conceding the first goal, AKS won the first quarter by 4 goals to 2. The second quarter saw Scarisbrick enjoy some possession of their own and only good defending from all the team made it difficult for our opponents to create many scoring opportunities and remained in the driving seat throughout the game. It was a close game and the deciding factor was most definitely the superior shooting of the AKS shooters Freya , Laura  and Lara.

The U12 girls are to be commended on making an enthusiastic and very promising start to their netball careers at AKS. In a game of four quarters all girls played in at least two quarters and in a variety of positions and worked hard to earn a well deserved 12-8 win. Player of the match was Laura who playing in her first ever game of netball was outstanding in the attacking play and as a shooter.

The U15 Netball team played their second league match against a strong Lytham side and they had a tough battle.  Lytham passed the ball at speed and were quick to dodge, but Alex worked tirelessly at Goalkeeper to keep the LSA attackers at bay.  GD Ziv worked hard to intercept and gain possession from the LSA centre court players and we slowly started to pass with more accuracy to create scoring opportunities of our own. Prisha was excellent in our attacking circle working hard to find space and managing to score from various angles.  AKS worked hard to bring the score back to a respectable 17-7 against a strong LSA  team. Players of the Match were Prisha and Kiera.
