AKS Year 9 Netball teams win against Lytham

PUBLISHED 15 November 2019

AKS Year 9 netball teams were in action against local rivals Lytham High School and after two superb team performances came out on top in both games to maintain their unbeaten league record.

The A team started well with excellent accurate movement and passing and went into an early lead. Determined to put into practice the tactics worked on in training the team used the space well and timed their dodges superbly to get free which enabled us to pass the ball down the court quickly and accurately. Lucy and Amelie S worked well together in the circle to receive the ball close to the post and they converted at ease to keep the scoreboard moving along. Maddie B was dominant in the centre marking superbly to regain possession and, always available to get the ball she linked our defending and attacking thirds well. Great team defending and excellent shooting saw us go into the break 10 – 2 ahead.

After the break we continued to play with speed and accuracy. Mady R and Olivia defended well to deny the Lytham shooters scoring opportunities and frequently won back possession. As the game progressed we moved further ahead with Lucy & Amelie improving their conversion rates and everyone contributing to the team tactics in both attack and defence. At the final whistle we had extended our lead to an impressive 25 – 2. Maddie B and Amelie S were voted players of the match.

The B team also enjoyed a good win. We started well with good defending by everyone and great shot conversion by shooters Patsy and Katie saw us go into an early lead. Lytham did enjoy possession of their own but Leila and Anna defended well and made it difficult for them to create any good shooting opportunities and frequently regained possession. The team tried hard to space out and pass in order with everyone timing their dodges well to work the ball down the court to the shooters who kept the score moving along to extend our lead. Carys in the centre linked play well and with good accurate netball we went into the break 11 – 1 ahead. A change of positions in the second half saw a number of players in unusual areas of the court and this disrupted our play and enabled Lytham to enjoy more possession and start to close the gap with a few goals of their own. Despite this we still worked hard both with and without the ball and despite not having as many chances Katie and Patsy kept the score moving along with good shooting and at the final whistle we were celebrating a 15 – 6 victory. Players of the match were Patsy and Carys but mention should also go to Katie Thompson who shot superbly , particularly in the first half.
