The House system at AKS is an integral part of school life and pupils take part in a wide range of sporting and other activities as part of their House team and work together to compete against the other houses and gain valuable House Points towards the coveted end of year House Championship Trophy.
The Annual House Netball Competition saw all girls in Years 8 , 9 & 10 taking to the court to represent their House and once again competition was fierce with Leighton being crowned Champions coming out on top in all three events.
The Year 10 competition saw Leighton finish on top with three wins. In all the games team shooter Prisha and Eliza kept the scores moving along while Ellie and Mille controlled the defending circle. Poppy, Freya and Liberty dominated the centre of the court to play some great passing netball and prove too strong for the opposition to claim the title.
With the Year 9 being crowned Fylde & Wyre U14 South League Netball Champions before Christmas and a large U14 squad the standard of netball was superb and every pupil played for their House with some close matches and a couple of goals deciding the winners in a number of the games. The outright winners were Leighton who, boasted seven school team players amongst their ranks, proved too strong for the opposition remaining undefeated in all their matches to claim the title of Year 9 House Netball Champions. In second place was Rufford with Gawthorpe close behind in third spot and Salmesbury fourth.
Competition was just as fierce in the Year 8 event with large squads all the girls playing an excellent standard of netball. The Year 8 competitions again saw Leighton take top spot and Salmesbury second with Rufford third and Gawthorpe fourth.
Overall Leighton claimed top spot with three victories but everyone can take great credit from both the standard of play and sportsmanship displayed in the tournaments. All the games were played in a tremendous spirit which truly epitomised the AKS sporting tradition and ethos. The girls will now look forward to the House Hockey competitions at the end of the Spring term.
