Learning2Learn is a relatively new course on the Year 7 & Year 8 curriculum. It aims to create more independent and reflective learners, who approach their work with the right mindset and motivation.
Henry from Year 7 explains how it's helped him:
"The lessons are the highlight of my week. It is so informative and teaches me all about the learner I am. I understand now that we all learn differently. I have learnt about the different types of motivation and the positives of having a growth mindset. I understand the importance of reflection and that failure is all part of the learning process. We were challenged in the final week with The Marshmallow Challenge and I successfully built the tallest freestanding structure. To succeed, I showed inventiveness, tenacity and excellent communication skills."
Scarlett from Year 8 talked to us about the six Round Square IDEALS which they have been studying:
As part of the Year 8 curriculum, we are learning more about the six Round Square IDEALS and completing the Round Square IDEALS Challenge. We look at a different IDEALS each half term, last half term was dedicated to understanding Leadership. We looked at the qualities and attributes of a leader and understood that the type of leader you wish to be depends on who or what you are leading and the context you find yourself in. We were asked to think about the type of leader needed in times of adversity. This was my answer...
“In times of adversity the world needs a leader who is calm and collected. Someone who is a good decision maker to ensure everyone feels safe and listened too.”
For our final challenge, we made a pair of Round Square glasses to visualise the world we wanted to see and the leader we wanted to be.
