Another stellar year for AKS A-level students

PUBLISHED 10 August 2021

The whole AKS school community is congratulating its Sixth Form students on taking up their chosen university places after the awarding of A Levels today. This year’s A-level cohort continues the tradition of our students taking up places at some of the country’s most prestigious universities, with Russell Group and top ten universities, including Durham, LSE, St Andrews and Edinburgh, prevailing.

Our students have secured places on highly-competitive courses across the academic spectrum, from STEM degree courses to Medicine, Humanities, Social Sciences and Creative and Performing Arts.

The Headmaster, David Harrow, said:

“Our students’ hard-earned grades sit alongside a huge range of achievements in so many areas that complement and transcend the academic. People who excel at sport, music, drama, in our CCF, as part of Round Square, or in a host of other areas, have worked hard to build an excellent portfolio of experiences and are now heading off to leading universities across the UK, as they do every year.

“In pursuing their passions and achieving their ambitions, our aim is that our students move into the next stages of their lives with the ability and motivation to change their worlds. So, whilst it is bittersweet to say goodbye to such a wonderful year group, we are very excited to watch their achievements in the years to come.”

We are particularly pleased to celebrate the fantastic outcomes gained by students who joined us for Sixth Form from local schools such as Unity Academy, Lytham St Annes High School and South Shore going on to study Pharmacology, Marine Biology and Psychology.

Taran and Pickersgill both received a full suite of A*s. Talented table tennis player Taran (four A*s) will go on to study Computer Science at Manchester and Joe (three A*s) will read Physics at Lancaster.

Head of School and Lancashire hockey player, Millie (A*AB), is looking forward to studying Business at Edinburgh University after topping the national leader board for ROI with her team, IDOZI in the Tycoon in Schools entrepreneurship competition.

Head of School, J Jay (A*A*A), is planning a gap year before reading Medicine. Jay has been an active member of the Performing Arts Department since joining as a drama scholar in Year 7, with lead roles in the last two school musicals (We Will Rock You and The Addams Family). He was also part of the IDOZI Tycoon in Schools team and was runner-up in last year’s International Art Competition run by United Learning.

Dulcie (A*AB), Senior Prefect and Ambassador for both Mental Health and Learning, will read Music at York. Dulcie reflected, ““I am sorry to leave but my time at AKS has enabled me to feel very prepared and excited for the next step in my education”.

Senior Prefect, Oliver (A*A*AA), will now take up his place at Loughborough to study Aeronautical Engineering in the pursuit of his ambition to become a pilot. Oliver is a talented all-rounder, playing the saxophone in the school’s swing band in addition to being a force to be reckoned with on the tennis court. He was also awarded the school prize for his contribution to the Duke of Edinburgh scheme in July.

Head of Sixth Form, Kevin Maund said, “I am so proud our students’ success. If ever there was a cohort that so aptly personifies the AKS spirit of tenacity, resilience, and pure gumption it would be all members of the Class of 2021. It has been a joy to work with them over the last two years and I wish them the very best of luck with the next exciting chapter of their lives. I have every confidence that they are equipped for the adventures ahead, and look forward to welcoming them back to AKS in the future as the newest members of our alumni community, AKS OAKS.”
