1st XI Hockey march on in National Schools Cup with win against Cheadle School

AKS Senior hockey side continued their great start to the season with another good cup win against Cheadle Hulme School in the third round of the National Schools U18 Cup.

AKS started on the front foot taking the game to Cheadle from the first whistle and attacking at pace down the right. The team got reward for their positive start in the 10th minute when Katie T found the net after a great cross from Lucy W to make it 1 – 0. Lifted by the goal we continued to apply pressure and went further ahead when Beth R made it 2 – 0 minutes later. AKS were enjoying the bulk of possession and with Lucy B, Laura K and Kirtika S dominating in midfield more goals followed from a Laura K corner strike and a second from Beth R after a superb through ball from Lisa P. Cheadle did put AKS defenders under pressure but great defending by Olivia M, Jess A and Lisa P along with a goal saving dive from Danni H maintained our clean sheet. Another great strike at a corner from Lucy B found the net to make it 5 – 0 and the game was sealed before the break when Laura A’ s driving run saw her finish with a great strike into the corner to make it 6 – 0 at the break.

We started the second half as we did the first, on the front foot, and Beth R got her hat-trick goal in the first minute. Great passing hockey with the ball being switched from one side to another and good team interplay constantly put the Cheadle goal under pressure and create scoring opportunities and win several attacking corners. Speedy winger Carly W was a constant threat and she found the net to make it 8 – 0 and another from Laura A and one on the final whistle from Katie L made it an impressive victory.

Overall all the team contributed to a great demonstration of passing hockey and they now look forward to the fourth round of the cup against St.Peter’s School, York.
