Three AKS Hockey teams continue their unbeaten runs with wins against Stockport Grammar School

It was another successful morning for AKS hockey teams against Stockport Grammar school with 4 wins and a draw from the six games and 3 teams maintaining their unbeaten records for the season.

The U15 team put in a superb team performance and got reward for their efforts with a deserved 2-0 win. We started the match on the back foot with Stockport putting us under pressure from the first whistle and some nervous defending saw Stockport dominate both possession and scoring opportunities in the first 5 minutes. We slowly gained in confidence and enjoyed more possession with Ella A’s driving runs and link play with Charlotte L down the right putting us on the front foot but at quarter time the scores were level at 0-0. The second period saw us enjoy more of the ball with Amelia H, Hannah A and Lucy W dominant in midfield and a great strike at a corner by Rosie L came close to taking the lead but flew just wide. Stockport were always dangerous and great defending from Sophia M , Esther T, Ellie S and Lilly G kept the Stockport forwards at bay and we deservedly took the lead just  before the break when a great pass from Amelia H found Poppy M perfectly placed on the left post and her early shot found the net to make it 1-0 at the break. We started the second half well and great pressing saw Charlotte L steal the ball from the Stockport defender but her shot hit the side netting so the score remained 1-0. Stockport did win several corners but much improved corner defence saw us successfully protect our lead and the win was sealed late in the game when Charlotte L again out ran the Stockport defence and put in a perfect cross which found Hannah A free in the circle and her superb early strike found the net to make it 2-0 and a secured a well deserved victory. Players of the match were Hannah A and Ella A but the whole team deserve the award for a great team performance.

The AKS U14’ s maintained their unbeaten record with a hard earned 1-1 draw. Both teams started strongly and Stockport kept Shelby Q in the AKS goal on her toes and she made several important saves to keep us on level terms. AKS managed to score on the counterattack with a superb strike by Anna V to take us into a 1 – 0 lead. The game was fairly even with chances a plenty and Stockport managed to equalize just before half time. AKS started the second half with determination and did find the net from a corner only to have it rules out as the ball had not left the circle and despite their best efforts the match finished 1-1. Payers of the match were Anna V and Sophia McG.

AKS U13 A’s continued their winning ways with another great performance. The team displayed great linking passes and intelligently switched play from one side of the pitch to the other. Olivia W scored the first goal putting AKS ahead at half time. Stockport came back fighting in the second half, piling on the pressure, however AKS remained calm and in control. Camilla W scored the second and decisive goal after chasing down and intercepting the ball from a Stockport free hit outside of the circle. Lauren M was awarded player of the match for her control of the game and accurate ball distribution.

AKS U13 B had a very pleasing start to their match with the team were playing as an organised unit, sticking to their roles, and using the space they created to their advantage. AKS were playing the better hockey in the first half, with Ava D scoring a confident goal on the left-hand post, enabling AKS to take a 1-0 lead at half time. Unfortunately, AKS lost their form after half time, allowing Stockport back into the game to score two goals without reply. Player of the match was awarded to Lauren A for her great distribution of the ball.

The U12A team produced a dominant and confident performance in their first away game of the year. The match was only a few minutes old when Sophia T scored her first goal of the game after excellent interlinking play with Alyssa W. Any chance of Stockport equalising was easily squashed by a great defensive performance from Evie B, Katie W and Scarlett B and such was the dominance of the AKS team, players were able to experience different positions to gain further understanding of the game. By halftime the team had amassed an incredible 5 goals after further goals were scored by Alyssa and Charlotte R. Player of the match was Sadie A and it was wonderful to see her influence over the game as she calmly worked in defence and launched many an attack. AKS continued to impress in the second half and scored an additional 4 goals to make final score 9 - 0. Goals were scored by Alyssa (3), Sophia (3), Charlotte (2) and Evie B.

The U12b won 5-1.  Evie G( 2)  Amelia G(2) and  Antonia B scored with Antonia B player of the match.
