The AKS 1st XI put in a great performance in their first match of the season against Rossall School and deservedly came out on top. The team were in the ascendancy from the very beginning and scored 3 very quick goals, all from well executed penalty corners by Lucy B, Laura K and Olivia M. A large squad had travelled to Rossall and the dominance from the team allowed players to try different positions ahead of the rest of the season. Great goalkeeping was on show from Danni H and Scarlett D and the defence was marshalled well by Olivia M. Going forward the AKS team looked threatening as they passed the ball with pace and were able to penetrate the Rossall defence with ease. Further goals were scored by KatieT, Kate S, Beth R(2) and a further goal from Lucy B sealed the win. The game ended 8-3 to AKS.

On Saturday six teams faced tough opposition in Kings School, Chester and just came out on top with three wins and a draw.

The AKS U15 match was a close fought one against strong opposition. Kings opened the scoring from a corner in 10th minute  but good AKS pressure saw us deservedly get on equal terms before the break when an Amelia H free hit found Charlotte L in the circle who scored a powerful goal into the bottom left corner to make it 1 – 1. The first half ended with AKS on top, but with the score still at 1-1

After the break a replica goal with Amelia again finding Charlotte and another great strike made  it 2 – 1. We continued to press and won a corner and only a great save from the Kings keeper stopped Charlotte scoring her hat-trick goal. Kings were always dangerous and only a good double save from Sophie S maintained the lead  but after more pressure Kings scored to make it 2-2 . Kings scored again to go in to the lead but despite more AKS pressure and a short corner that flew inches wide we could not find the net and the score remained at 2 – 3. Overall a superb team performance which on another day would have sealed a victory. Player of the Match was Ellie S for her hard-working performance throughout the game.

AKS U14 continued their winning run with another great performance to win 6 – 0. Kings started strongly and put immediate pressure on the AKS goal but great defending thwarted their attacks and a counterattack saw Anna V find the back of the net to take us in to the lead. Further goals from Anna V (4), Kate H and Camilla C saw AKS victorious 6-0. Players of the match were awarded to Camilla C and Reya B.

This week the U13A had to step up a notch in their match against King’s Chester. The game was played at a faster pace and King’s applied pressure on AKS. AKS remained calm and in control, displaying great linking passes amongst the players, working the ball from one side of the pitch to the other. The U13A’s created many goal scoring opportunities which were saved by Kings’ talented GK. However, AKS continued to battle and pile pressure on Kings’ defence, testing the goalkeeper further. AKS were eventually rewarded for their efforts with Camilla W scoring a hat trick. Final score 3 – 1 with Olivia W voted player of the match by Kings and Gabby H-S by AKS.

The U13 B team played some great hockey and started to implement the things they have been working on in training. The girls were spacing out and linking passes from defence to attack. Although they were 2-0 down at half time, they approached the second half with greater confidence and stronger passing and tackling, resulting in the score remaining 2-0. Debut Goalkeeper, Kathryn S was voted AKS player of the match for her confident and calm clearances. A promising start to Kathryn’s role as goalkeeper. King’s Chester awarded Claudia J as their player of the match.

The U12A team faced a strong team from Kings, Chester and although they created a number of scoring opportunities, an outstanding performance from the Kings GK, denied them from scoring at each attempt. Louisa B played in her first match in goal and produced some outstanding saves. The defensive unit of Katie W, Scarlett B and Evie B worked well to subdue the Kings attack. Sadie A had an outstanding game in the centre of the pitch and held the shape of the team very well and started a number of attacks. Player of the match Alyssa W was able to use her pace to create a number of opportunities on the right hand side of the pitch and Hattie W and Sophia T both impressed going forward and with a little more luck would both have scored. Overall, another good performance from this team, well done! Player of the match was Alyssa W.

The U12B team won 4 - 2 thanks to a hat-trick from Bella A and one from Antonia B with Izzy H voted player of the match.
