Yesterday’s performance of ‘We’re All Going On A Summer Holiday’ by the Year 6 children was an incredible showcase for the outstanding talent, energy and commitment of our Prep School pupils. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback received overnight, all stating that this has been one of the best productions the Prep School has ever performed with every child having a valuable and entertaining role to play.
The musical explored the challenges of moving on, very fitting for our Year 6 leavers - daring to try new things and facing life’s hurdles and challenges with a song in your heart and a dance in your step! The story is based on a family heading to Poplins, the holiday camp where ‘every dream becomes reality’! The audience were introduced to a host of wonderfully flamboyant and hilarious characters, experiencing gourmet dining, ballroom dancing, treasure hunts and even a Glamorous Granny competition. They soon come to realise that life is for living and opportunities are there for the taking!
Throughout the day, parents and guests commented on how impressed they were by the quality of the singing, the live music, the acting, the comedy lines, the dancing and costumes! Shining brightly on the stage from beginning to end, both Mr Rice and I were so proud of each and every one of our Year 6 children. They did remarkably well to learn all the lines, songs and dance routines at such a busy time of the year amidst a full timetable of events, fixtures, assessments, trips and of course their recent residential!
The entire cast has worked tirelessly to make the show such a success! We are so fortunate to have so many children who can act brilliantly, sing beautifully and dance with energy and precision. Behind the scenes, our children also have the skills required to manage the production and technical elements required to facilitate such a seamless polished performance, delivering superb lighting, sound and backdrops! This undoubtedly made our job producing the musical so much easier! I am sure we will see so many of our Prep School children starring in future productions in the Senior School.
Mr Rice and I would like to thank all the children for their hard work and dedication and of course parents, who have supported their children at home learning their lines. A huge thank you to Mr Thomas, our fantastically talented Music teacher, and his band who played all the songs without missing a single beat! Also, special thanks to Mrs Whitaker for her help sourcing and making props, from beachballs to Green Coat badges, and for her excellent stage directions! Not to forget her wonderful Year 5 class who sang magnificently throughout both performances. We are sure last night’s showstopper is one the children will never forget!
