Last month, Year 5 went on a three-night stay to Winmarleigh Hall, just North of Preston. Despite being so close, we really could have been anywhere in the country as the beautiful grounds run as far as you can see - each morning we saw hares out and about and even a shy little deer watching us on the archery course.
Our school residentials are an important part of our character education programme, building the children's resilience and team working skills. This year we completed a total of 17 activities including canoeing, bushcraft, fencing, and zip wire. All of the children benefitted from challenging themselves in different ways and had so much fun. We returned home exhausted but very proud of our achievements.
Here are some of the children's thoughts.....
"Because of my fear of heights, it was very difficult to complete some of the activities, but I tried my absolute best! The giant swing pushed me to my limit - I was on it with Oscar and Harry and they comforted me."
"All in all, this was an amazing residential, packed full of excitement, energy and enthusiasm. I would definitely recommend it to the brave, the fearless and the courageous. After all, not many 9–10-year-olds could handle 3 nights away from home!"
"On the day we departed, I felt scared of sleeping away from home however, I also felt a buzz of excitement shoot through my veins! "
"I was looking forward to problem solving - our group was very good at it. My favourite part was the brain teaser because I couldn't get it. Zach got it in the end, the trick was to put your hands behind your back."
"The activities were amazing, I was so brave that I think I conquered my fear of heights. My favourite things were a really high zip wire, Jacob's Ladder and Giant swing."
"After what seemed like hours of anxious waiting filled with the screams of others, I climbed the tall tower, knees knocking with fear ....... my legs lashed in the air, eyes goggled, arms waved. What seemed like moments later we hurtled towards death on the giant swing! Wheeeeeeeee!"
