The AJIS U11 Hockey tournament took place at UCLAN Sports Arena in Preston on Monday.
Our girls U11 team started convincingly against Newcastle ULS with a 3-0 victory, with goals from Sadie 2 and Penny. They then dominated against Queens Chester, but the game ended goalless. The next game was against local rivals Kirkham and was decided by a fantastic finish from Bella. The eventual winners, Manchester High, proved the toughest opponents, but the team battled hard, only losing 1-0.
A hard fought draw against Kings Mac followed and then a superb individual hattrick from captain Sadie proved decisive against Stockport Grammar. The final match was against Kings Chester, always a difficult fixture, but once again great defense and clinical finishing, again from Sadie, gave AKS the edge.
There were a tense few minutes waiting for the final placings, Manchester High being the deserved winner, however, in spite of having lost a key squad member to chicken pox the day before, AKS were pronounced silver medallist. A richly deserved outcome, having produce the best hockey of their season.
Squad – Sadie (Captain), Katie, Evie, Leila, Penny, Ella, Bella and Sophia
Well done to everyone
