AKS U14 hockey team continued a successful week on the hockey scene by winning the Lancashire round of the National Schools U14 tournament and so qualifying to represent the county in the North West Finals.

First game of the tournament saw us against Stonyhurst College and we got off to the perfect start when Lucy W scored in spectacular style volleying the ball in the air to find the net in only the third minute. Things got even better 5 minutes later when Rosie L found the net to make it 2-0. We continued to dominate possession and although frustrated by a Stonyhurst packed defence we continued to create scoring opportunities and Rosie L was on the scoresheet again in 13th minute and bagged her hat-trick goal soon after. Charlotte L scored with a well struck shot before the break and at half time we were 5-0 ahead. The second half saw us continue to dominate with Amelia H, Lola H and Esther T dominating midfield and goals from Camilla C and Amelia H made the final score 7-0 and we had our first points on the board.

Our second game was against Rossall and again nerves were settled in 2nd minute when a well taken Charlotte L goal gave us the lead. The speedy Rossall midfield posed a threat but great defending by Captain Lilly G, Sophia M Esther T and Hannah A won back possession and maintained our clean sheet. Goals from Anna V and Poppy M saw the score 3-0 at the break. The second half saw us play our best hockey of the day switching play superbly and playing as a team. Two goals from Camilla C on the left post after great play down the right made the score 5-0. Our 6th goal was the best of the day when Amelia H and Lucy W played several 1-2 passes around Rossall defenders before Lucy slotted home. Before the final whistle Charlotte L was on target again to make the final score 7-0.

A superb team performance winning both games, scoring 14 goals without conceding and deservedly being crowned Lancs U14 National Schools Champions and we now look forward to the Regional round.
