Reflections from last year's Head Student, Oliver

PUBLISHED 20 September 2022

Many of our Class of '22 will be starting University this week, along with last year's Head Student, Oliver, who is reading Mathematics and Statistics at Queen Mary University of London, after achieving  (A*A*A) in his A levels. Before Oliver left school, he shared his reflections with us. Oliver made an outstanding contribution throughout his time here and he leaves a legacy which will inspire others to follow in his footsteps. Thank you Oliver and good luck to you and all your peers who are starting their new adventures beyond school.

I believe I speak for my entire year group when I say we are all incredibly grateful for our time at AKS. The past few years have been so filled with amazing opportunities that have helped us all to become the best versions of ourselves. Whether it be sports, academia, drama or music we all have been given the chance to thrive.

For me personally, I would not be who I am today had I not auditioned for the school musical in Year 9, exposing me to a completely unique experience that served as a creative outlet for the years to follow, leading to multiple years as a principle cast member in the annual school musicals and culminating in a standing ovation. Even though the past couple years have proven difficult for the world, the positive and tenacious approach presented by teachers and students alike has only further proven how fortunate we are to be a part of this school.

It’s weird to think that this phase of my life has come to an end, but I feel excited and prepared for what is to follow. Being selected to be Head Student was a tremendous honour and the gruelling interview process has prepared me for no doubt many interviews in the future.

I hope I have left a legacy of integrity, hard work, politeness, respect and most of all dedication to excelling at your passions. Looking forward I would like to dive deeper into statistics at university whilst continuing to pursue my passion of acting, but beyond that, I haven’t the faintest idea of what the world will have to offer.

Finally, I would like to thank my friends and teachers for making my time at AKS such a memorable one. I wish you all the very best. I have no doubt that I will be reminiscing on the joyful memories made at this school for the many years to come.
